History

The Norwegian freighter, The Torvore, was rounding Sagres en route to Naples from Swansea when it was chased down by the German U-Boat; U-35, which was captained by Kapitanleutnant Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière. This was the same U-boat that went on to sink 3 other ships that day, including the Wilhelm Krag. The Torvore was stopped by U-35 and when checking the documents and discovering that it was headed to the UK, the captain of U-35 decided to sink the vessel. German sailors went aboard and, after evacuating the crew to the lifeboats, placed explosive charges and sank the Torvore with no loss of life.
